Case Western Reserve University (also known as Case Western or CWRU) is a private research university in Cleveland, Ohio. Founded through the federation of the Case Institute of Technology and Western Reserve University in 1967. The two institutions had neighbored each other in Cleveland beginning in the late 19th century.

The formula used to create the Academic Calendar each year is approved by both the Faculty Senate and the Board of Trustees. While the formula sets basic guidelines, it does not comprehensively dictate dates for all schools, programs, courses, and teaching formats at the university. Rather, it provides a framework that is then adapted to set the specific dates that make up each year’s calendar.
