According to a statement by the company, the scholarship is open to all Nigerian citizens currently in their second year of full-time study at a Nigerian university accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Applicants are required to have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.5 on a 5.0 scale, and must not be a beneficiary of any other scholarship from an entity in the oil and gas industry, whether local or international. Female students are strongly encouraged to apply.
The selection process involves an initial application screening to ensure eligibility criteria are met. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to take a monitored computer-based exam. The top 10 candidates from each of the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory will proceed to the next round which involves academic verification of credentials. Applicants found to have falsified academic records will be disqualified.
Successful scholarship recipients are those who have satisfied all criteria and have been duly contacted by SNEPCo. All scholars are required to maintain a minimum 3.5 CGPA per session to continue receiving the award.
Interested eligible students have been directed to submit their applications electronically via the official scholarship website – https://candidate.scholastica.ng/schemes/2023NNPCSNEPCo. The application is free of charge and requires candidates to provide personal and educational information, National ID number, as well as scanned copies of supporting documents including admission letter, UTME result, O’Level result(s), CGPA transcript and letter of state of origin.
A signed Government Official Declaration Form also needs to be downloaded from the scholarship website, filled properly and uploaded. Applicants are advised to preview all uploaded documents to ensure they are clear, accurate and match the names on other documentation. Passport photographs should have a white background.
The deadline for submission of applications is November 10, 2023. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted subsequently regarding details of the qualifying exam.
SNEPCo cautioned applicants to beware of fraudulent websites posing as the official scholarship platform, as they may request payments during the application process. The company stated clearly that applications are only accepted through https://candidate.scholastica.ng/schemes/2023NNPCSNEPCo and no SNEPCo representatives are assigned to assist candidates.
Any applicant found to have falsified documents or credentials will face immediate disqualification at any stage. Successful candidates also cannot transfer the scholarship offer to another university or course of study.
The NNPC-SNEPCo National University Scholarship program was introduced in 1992 to develop indigenous capacity in petroleum engineering and geosciences. Over 300 recipients graduate yearly across several universities under the scheme. The program aligns with the Federal Government’s goal of developing local content in the oil and gas sector.
SNEPCo is a subsidiary of Shell Nigeria which operates the Bonga deep offshore oil field under a production sharing contract with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company.
