As a Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University student, you should familiarize yourself with the Virginia Tech Academic Calendar 2023-2024. It includes important dates such as deadlines and move-in days.

Virginia Tech Academic Calendar: Fall Session 2023

• August 21 – Classes Begin
• August 21 – Last day to withdraw to avoid tuition and fee charges. Students must complete a withdrawal form.
• September 4 – Labor Day (No Classes – University Offices Closed)
• October 3 – Last day to change grade option from A-F to P/F by 5:00 p.m. Contact the Office of the University Registrar to process a change to grade mode.
• October 6-8 – Fall Break Weekend (No Classes – University Offices Open Friday)
• October 23 – Last day for students to resign without grade penalty. First and required contact for resignation is academic dean of undergraduate student’s college or dean of the Graduate School. Submit completed resignation form to the University Registrar’s office by 5:00 p.m. If you are enrolled in only one course, you must resign from the university and cannot drop your final hours for the semester. Your refund will be calculated according to the university refund policy on resignations.
• October 23 – Last day to change grade option from P/F to A-F by 5:00 p.m. Contact the Office of the University Registrar to process a change to grade mode.
• November 14 – Last day to apply for Fall graduation to have your name appear in the Commencement program and to update your diploma mailing address.
• November 15 – Deadline for undergraduates to request rescheduling of final examinations that conflict or constitute a third exam in 24 hours. (See your Academic Dean)
• November 18 – Thanksgiving break begins
• November 26 – Thanksgiving break ends
• December 6 – Last day to apply for W grade policy
• December 6 – Classes End
• December 7 – Reading Day
• December 8 – Beginning of Fall Semester final examinations.
• December 13 – Close of Fall Semester final examinations. (Inclement weather makeup is December 14)
• December 14 – Degree Conferral Date. See commencement.vt.edu for commencement ceremony schedule.

• December 26 – Classes Begin (Virtual, Blended, or Winter Experience)
• December 26 – Last day for students to add or drop courses or to withdraw from Winter Session (Virtual, Blended, or Winter Experience) to avoid tuition and fee charges. Last day to change A-F or P/F grade mode by 5:00 p.m.
• January 2 – Classes begin (Residential-Blacksburg)
• January 2 – Last day for students to add or drop courses or to withdraw from Winter Session (Residential-Blacksburg) to avoid tuition and fee charges. Last day to change A-F or P/F grade mode by 5:00 p.m.
• January 3 – Last day to resign without grade penalty.
• January 12 – Last day to apply for W grade policy.
• January 12 – Classes end for Winter Session
• January 13 – Exam day for Winter Session
• January 13 – Degree Conferral Date

Virginia Tech Academic Calendar: Spring Session 2024

• January 15 – Martin Luther King Holiday (No Classes – University Offices Closed)
• January 16 – Classes Begin
• January 16 – Last day for students to withdraw from Spring Semester to avoid tuition and fee charges. Students must complete a withdrawal form at the University Registrar’s Office, 250 Student Services Building if NOT attending Spring Semester.
• February 26 – Last day to change grade option from A-F to P/F by 5:00 p.m. Contact the Office of the University Registrar to process a change to grade mode.
• March 2 – Spring Break begins
• March 10 – Spring Break ends
