VSU Academic Calendar 2023/2024

VSU Academic Calendar: Founded in 1882, Virginia State University (VSU) is a public land-grant university located in Ettrick, Virginia. VSU has a long and important history as one of Virginia’s two public historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Originally established in 1882 as the Virginia Normal and Collegiate Institute with the purpose of educating African American teachers, the school expanded over the decades into a fully accredited four-year university. It was renamed Virginia State College for Negroes in 1930 and Virginia State College in 1946. The school integrated in 1968 and achieved university status in 1979 as Virginia State University.

Today, Virginia State University serves a diverse population of over 4,500 students on its 258-acre campus. The university offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs across four colleges: College of Agriculture, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Natural and Health Sciences, and Reginald F. Lewis College of Business. Academic programming covers over 60 majors. As a land-grant institution, VSU has a strong heritage of high-quality programming in agricultural education, research and community outreach.

Beyond academics, VSU provides students abundant opportunities for personal growth through campus housing, clubs and organizations, arts and culture, and NCAA Division II athletics. The vibrant student life enriches the educational experience at VSU.

This academic calendar outlines important semester dates and deadlines that students must follow to be successful at VSU. It denotes start and end dates for terms, class registration/drop deadlines, exam periods, grading deadlines, withdrawals, housing closures and openings, holidays, special events, and graduation. The calendar serves as an essential guide for students to manage their coursework and participate fully in university activities.
