Tufts University follows a semester system. All undergraduates (except REAL students) are expected to carry a full course load, unless they have serious, documented health conditions (four to five courses per semester).

Tufts defines full-time status as taking at least 12 Semester-hour units (SHUs) per semester. You have the option of graduating or enrolling part-time in your final or penultimate semester after completing Tufts’ residency requirement of eight semesters of full-time study.

FALL 2023 SEMESTER – BOSTON CAMPUS DEGREE PROGRAMS

SEPTEMBER 2023

• 5 Tuesday – Classes begin;  First day of cross–registration for non–Friedman students
• 12 Tuesday – Last day to ADD classes for the Fall 2023 semester via SIS at 11:59 PM, a stroke before Midnight
• 13 Wednesday – Gershoff Lecture – 12:15–1:15 PM, Jaharis Family Center, Boston Campus, Behrakis Auditorium

OCTOBER 2023

• 9 Monday – Indigenous Peoples’ Day – University Holiday – NO CLASSES
• 10 Tuesday – DROP deadline via SIS at 11:59 PM, a stroke before Midnight; last day to drop a course without
  record of enrollment
• 30 Monday – Pre–Registration Period via SIS for Spring 2024 semester

NOVEMBER 2023

• 7 Tuesday – Substitute FRIDAY’s class schedule on Tuesday, November 7
  
• 10 Friday – Veterans Day Observed – University Holiday – NO CLASSES
  
• 20 Monday – Course Evaluations open via Blue at 9:00 AM
  
• 22 Wednesday – NO CLASSES
  
• 23–24 Thurs.–Fri. – Thanksgiving Recess—University Holiday—NO CLASSES

DECEMBER 2023

• 11 Monday – Last day of classes for the Fall 2023 semester
                         Last day to WITHDRAW from courses with grade of “W” on transcript
                         Course Evaluations via Blue close at 11:59 PM, a stroke before Midnight
  
• 12–13 Tues.–Wed. – Reading Period
  
• 14 Thursday –  Final Examinations begin
  
• 21 Thursday –  Final Examinations end

• 3 Wednesday – Fall 2023 Grades due in SIS by 9:00 AM
  
• 15 Monday – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Observed – University Holiday—NO CLASSES
  
• 17 Wednesday – Classes begin
  
• 24 Wednesday – Last day to ADD classes via SIS at 11:59 PM, a stroke before Midnight
                              Deadline to Apply to Graduate via SIS if graduating in Spring 2024 (May 2024 degree conferral) or
                               graduating in Summer 2024 (August 2024 degree conferral)

• 19 Monday – Presidents’ Day Observed—University Holiday—NO CLASSES
